Reserves lose as unbeaten home Kent League 2 record is dented
Reserve Team Match Reports
Sunday 07 February 2010
Poor finishing and defending cost Sevenoaks Town Reserves their unbeaten home record in Kent League 2, finishing on the wrong end of a heavy defeat at Greatness Park on Saturday, writes John James. It was the third meeting between the sides this season.
After a great win in the Kent Intermediate Cup at Chatham, Town started well and on 3 mins John Phllips shot over when presented with a well positioned opportunity and on 10 mins Baffour Kadwa had a great strike which was saved well.
On 20 mins Erith forced several corners and went in front when Sam Prett shot home from close range. On 31 mins things got worse for Town when conceding a penalty Erith scored and went two up.
The game went from end to end with both sides missing good changes and town went in at half time 2-0 down.
Town put pressure on Erith after the restart and on 47 mins John Phillips scored from 10 yards on the back post. This should have been the turning point but some very poor defending again by town allowed Erith to score on 48 mins with a breakaway goal which cut through the town defence with ease.
Town were missing central defensive partners Stuart Clarke and Malik Fofana, the latter in the first team squad at Deal, and they looked uncomfortable and conceded another goal on 65 mins, leaving Town keeper Adam Porter with no chance.
Town created many chances in the second half but failed to take them On 80 mins Erith had the final say with their final goal which was missed by four players before poking home from a close range.
The game was so open it could have finished five all but poor finishing and defending let Sevenoaks down on the day. This was possibly the worst performance of the season from the reserves team. "Missing players is not an excuse and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Only Kadwa, Phillips and Wood came out with any credit and the standard was far below what Sevenoaks require".
Sevenoaks are at home to Deal next week, a fixture switched to Greatness Park, as the two respective first teams meet again in the Umbro Kent Senior Trophy and need a swift return to winnning ways
Sevenoaks Town Reserves: Adam Porter, Aaron Scanlan, Matt Baddley (Sean Blythe), Rob Littlejohn, Jarrell Grey, Joe Wood, Micky Smith (capt) John Phillips, Badar Mohammed, Antony Pace (Jack O'Connor), Baffour Kadwa (Albie Barton).
