Sevenoaks Town F.C. have appointed with immediate effect Simon Jones as first team manager for season 2008-09. The appointment follows Jones’ first season with the Club predominately as Reserve team manager, who have completed a successful season in league terms having been in the top three for the majority of the season in the Kent League First Division.
Jones stepped into the first team post which was vacated following the resignation of Del Moore and Bob Pittaway. His style of football has pleased the Town board and following extensive discussions new faces will be arriving at the Club for the start of the forthcoming season.
He has appointed Darrell Queeley and Norman Phillips as his assistants, both of whom have had experience at Ryman League level. Rhea Malkin will continue as sports physio for the Club. The Reserve team will be fronted by new manager Windell Morelese and assistant manager Kerry Street, both appointments being made by Jones.
Training for the majority of the season will be held on a G3 surface in Bromley for both teams, start dates to be confirmed. There will be undoubtedly a close liaison between both management teams with players from both squads operating in the same style and, as specified by the new manager, Jones places a great importance as well with the youth teams within the Club and players have already enjoyed moves into Senior football. Club overall manager Graham Logsdon says that the appointment by the Board allows continuity and is a sensible move for the Club.
"We have received a number of C.V.’s for this post, both from experienced people and relative newcomers which never ceases to amaze me, but the potential here is very good and a point that is continually made by people in football within the county. Simon is a very dedicated and fanatical football person who knows what he wants both in terms of the type of football played along with the type of person that he wants to carry this out. His contacts within the game are extremely important to us and hopefully this will act positively in terms of players arriving to play for the Town next season. We need to break the mould of being a mid-table side and prove that we can compete regularly at the top end of Kent League football."
